After reading reports of elephants on rampage in Kolhapur, Shinde had mailed the Maharashtra forest department offering help, but didn't receive a reply. While his efforts have been recognised in Kerala, his home state and home town were unaware about him. He is learning the voice patterns and behaviour of elephants by listening to their voice recordings. While he is able to understand elephants, there is still a long way to go for him as an elephant whisperer. He raises funds for the foundations by selling photographs of the elephants, apart from clay models and other items that are also on sale. Shinde later founded The Trunk Call, an NGO dedicated for the cause of elephant conservation. His research proved useful for the elephant conservators and veterinary doctors of Kerala. Even as he learned the language of elephants by himself, Anand conducted a proper study and presented a paper at international level.
